Well today I got into my car and the I-Drive screen just said BMW and did nothing else. It went back a couple times while driving but nothing. The parking sensors still work but no display and the sterio does not work. Has anyone had this happen to them? Is there a reset of anything? 05 545I
Wow, this JUST happened to me last week. Just the "BMW" logo; no radio, nav, nothing. Car ran fine. Took it in to the shop and they gave me a software upgrade to 21.2 (stated in the service report).

Dropped off the car in the morning (around 9am). Too late for a BMW loaner so got an Enterprise rental. Got back the car the next day at around 2pm. Does it take that long to update the software? Maybe they were backed up?

Everything back to normal now. Good luck on your car!

reset= push all at once - volume knob/CD eject/DVD eject

hope this helps
Okay... that's just wrong.

I expect that from Redmond but from BMW?! Oh... wait.

Now I feel like my first mod should be to replace volume knob/CD eject/DVD eject with buttons that read Ctrl, Alt, and Delete.

Picking on Redmond? Why not the guys down in Cuppertino? Remember the days of "open-apple + reset"? Or after they removed the reset button, and everyone had to keep a paperclip bent out of shape to reach the recessed reset button --- a couple of times a day.

Yes... I remember well... and if the Cupertino guys did this I would pick on them too.

FWIW, I use more OSes, on a daily basis, than my car has wheels. I like to pick on them all. Okay... I do pick on some more than others. I hope I didn't strike a nerve given your geographic location. If I did I apologize and it wasn't my intent.

And the reset trick is good to know. I just hope I never have to use it.

Ironically, my car is 12 months old and had that problem a couple of times this year.

It is, at this moment, at the dealer hoping tobe fixed. They have it for two days - should get it back today and will let you know. (need to get rid of this BMW116i!!)

Updates are time-consuming and tricky and from what I gather, often require long bouts of "sit still" time that often run past 5 pm. Mine, coming from 17 or somewhere down there, took three tries and much manual coding to get it to swallow 20.02, and after all those crashes and resets, I still had to go back for some accessory tweaking.

I also wonder about rental fee reimbursements having an overhead component in the them for the dealers, where they can use some of that to cover labor time that often falls short on upgrade procedures done "by the book." Not sure of this, but dealers seem to be quick to offer rentals for this kind of service visit. Let's just hope it gets done right the first time.

Cheers,
Ray Hull
