My Ride: BMW X-5, New Black Saphire Metallic 530i "enroute."
Took my new '05 for it's first road trip last weekend. Everything (including navigation) was working perfectly until I stopped to get some gas. I shut the car off left the key in the car and fueled up. After starting the car back up, I could not get past the "legal disclaimer" screen. Called my dealer and they didn't have a clue why it froze. CD I had playing still worked but I had no other functions for 2hrs!! I did shut the car completely off at a rest area, locked it, came back after appx. 5-10mins, restart again with no success. Finally, after arriving at my destination and leaving the car sit overnight, it did work fine the next day. Anyone ever experience this? Did I do something wrong? Or did the drive simply need to spool down or something? Curious..

There's a reboot protocol. I believe you depress the eject keys on the CD and DVD simultaneously as you turn the key in the ignition. I don't have NAV so it's not the same on my car but others have experienced similar problems. Try a search on this forum maybe.
I'm starting to think that NAV system really seems to make for a lot of problems. When I bought the car I thought I didn't need NAV - later I started to wish I had bought it and - Now, I'm starting to feel glad I didn't again. I have zero issues with the i-drive.

I've had my 545i - with Nav - for a few days shy of three months. In three months i-drive has randomly (and automatically) rebooted twice. In both cases when I had started the car it didn't come up properly and was locked at the legal screen for a minute or so, after which time it simply rebooted. In each case the reboot was successful. In both cases I simply continued driving with no ill effect whatsoever. I've never had a long-term lockup. I really don't give it too much thought - I'm quite happy with i-drive, and Im glad I chose Nav.
