My Ride: 2011 550i; Alpine White/Black Dakota/MSport/SAT/IAS/Driver Assistance/ConveniencePkg/Prem Pkg 2/4 Zone AC/Side-Top Cameras/HUD & Black panel/BMW Apps-iPhone 4 Media/M Decklid spolier /Ventureshiled clear bra/ V1 -Ordered 4/9/11, Production 4/19, Shipped on Martorell 4/23,Arrived Port Hueneme 5/19,Delivered 5/21/11
I started my car earlier today and the BMW screen would not give way to the lawyer screen . In fact the BMW screen now stays lit for a couple of minutes, goes dark, then re-appears. This happens continuously.
I have called my dealer , spoken w/ a service consultant. they indicated that it needs to be daignosed there.
Great, its friday afternoon, no stereo, no bluetooth...
Anyone have had this happen before, if so any suggestions to get this to reboot without dealer intervention? If not what the h**l is going on?

It's so weird. There are 3 posts talking about iDrive failed to boot up today. Including my e60, that's 4.

Try a reboot -- simultaneously press DVD EJECT, CD EJECT, and the VOLUME (MUTE) button.

UPDATE: car sat for a few hours, I Drive still dead, damn BMW screen wont go away, reboot doesnt correct

UPDATE: Dealer told me they couldnt take me until JANUARY SECOND!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
I nearly blew a gasket. CAlled my salesman, told him about this.....now I'm in on DECMBER 21...the best they can do
9 more days of no NAV, Logic 7, bluetooth
On top of that, at 8000 miles I'm getting a pulsating hum at 25mph+ from the front suspension....new tires in my future? Anyone with a mid 2005 or later production date having tire noise issues? I thought that the "new Dunlop runflats" had addressed this. Will check tonight sidewall for prod dates
