No, I don't have any speakers on the rear doors. I do have the center grille, but now I am wondering if there is a speaker under there. The standard features on my car lists, "Anti-theft AM/FM stereo/CD audio system with 10 speakers. So, now I am wondering if I really just have six speakers as I would have to take the grille off the rear speakers to see if there are two speakers on each side, but it don't look like it though. This is a little frustrating.
You're forgetting the two subwoofers under the seat. They're not as big as those in the Logic 7 system, but they're there.

I'm guessing the 10 speakers in the hifi sysyem are as follows:

(4) Front doors
(4) Rear Shelf
(2) Subwoofer

Logic 7 adds the center dash speaker and the rear passenger doors to make 13.

There are actually 14 speakers with the Logic 7 system. Yep, it's true...

...if you count your wife's mouth as a speaker. I know I sometimes do. Hahahahaha!
C,
Actually, it's 16:
1 mid center front
4 tweeters on A-pillars and rear dashboard
6 mid front and rear doors
2 subs under seats
1 in driver's foot well
1 from wife
1 from yourself

Ah, OK. I was wondering where that deep bass was coming from. Never thought to look under the seats.

An interesting note though, while I was hunting around for speakers I found a speaker underneath the steering wheel column. So, it is in the driver's side foot well and it is inline with the break pedel. It is about 4 to 6 inches in diameter. I removed the screws holding the plastic guard in place and peered underneath and sure enough there is a speaker under the grille and there are wires connected to it.

Thanks.

That little speaker in the driver-side footwell is the emergency speaker that's connected directly to the TCU so that BMW Assist can communicate with you if the air bags deploy, etc. It's there because in a crash, it's possible (probable) that the main audio system and speakers won't have power since the electrical system could be damaged or the battery pyrotechnics will blow the positive lead. The system also has a backup battery to provide power for the TCU to allow things to work...

Wow, how do you know all of this stuff. Thanks, for the info.

I had a Porsche Boxster and I hung out at ppbb.com forum to learn about Boxsters. That is a fantastic Porsche board and I still read the posts as there are great people there. I am happy that I found this forum for BMW's as it seems to have a lot of the same atmosphere of sharing and friendship that ppbb.com has.

So, I appreciate the info and Merry Christmas.

Aside from being one of the earlier E60 owners, I've learned a tremendous amount of information about the car from this very site...

Merry Christmas to you as well!

I just bought an E60 545i Sport, 6MT w/out the logic 7 system. I'm pretty sure it has 10 speakers, which consist of a pair of components in the door - mid+tweeter; and a pair of subwoofers under the front seats, which brings us to 6 for the front. Add to that two in the rear doors (1 each) and that brings us to 8, add 2 more in the rear deck and we are at 10 total.

The logic 7 system is based on this same Harman Kardon system, but adds a set of tweeters to the rear shelf and a center channel speaker, along with some lexicon signal processing --- bringing teh total speaker count to 13.

I used to design and install world class IASCA/USAC stereo systems, and having listened to world championship cars I have to admit that I am impressed with the stock BMW system... it's really not that bad.

1st post BTW, so Merry Christmakwanzhanikamadan and here's a pic of my new ride!

Still under the factory warranty till Nov 08 and I got it for less than $30K!!!

Thanks for the clarification. Your car is very sharp.

You might consider one of the shorter shift knobs from either an M-Sport 550 or an E46 ZHP. It significantly shortens the shifter throw.
