I attended a BMW event locally in the summer of 2005 in which we took an e90 (then brand new), an A4, and the G35 sedan through an autocross course. Of the three, the G35 was the worst. The interior was plastic-looking. It had the worst body roll through corners. Even the instructors hated it. It did have straight line power for sure. All that said, it was over three years ago, so improvements probably have been made.

I almost bought a G35 coupe in '04 I think. I was really impressed with acceleration, and it was fun to drive. For whatever reason I passed and just kept my e46. When I bought my e60 last year, I was out on the lot waiting for the salesman to get the keys so I could test drive "my" 530. I wandered over to the trade-in lot and there was a red '04 G35 coupe with tan interior--the exact combo I almost bought three years earlier. The exterior was OK, but the interior had turned a strange shade of green/grey anywhere where it had been in contact with skin--the headrest, seat, armrest, steering wheel, etc. May have been an isolated incident, but I was not impressed. 2 cents.

No - it isn't. The VQ engine is a Nissan design. It's also a very, very good engine indeed.

To the OP - if you can live with the loss of space, the G37 is a fine alternative to a low end E60, although its true BMW competitor is clearly the 3 series.

sorry guys the VQ engine in the g35 is renault 100% i have one, and im on the skyline/infinity forum...100% french
people seem to forget that renault owns most of nissan/infinity, and the development of the shared engines (vell satis/megane) are done in france.

superb engine

jeremy clarkson (of top gear fame) recently had a moan at nissan 350gt (VQ) owners showing them where the engine says made in france on it.

Take advice from ME. I just had a 530 and it got totaled, then I jumped into a 08 G35XS. I have to say the only thing I think this car has on my 530 is SPEED. Besides that IMO the car sucks in every which way. Infiniti claims its a AWD, LOL I took off the traction on wet pavement and I had the thing doing circles. The car handles like CRAP at high speeds its hard to keep the car steady. I do like the seats better on the G just because I didn't have the upgraded seats on my 530. They way the 5 took turns compared to the G is like night and day. I actually have to question myself if I can take a turn, when I had the 5 it handled like a champ! IMO I would have rather got a 328 instead of a g35, just cause there really isn't a car that compare to a BMW. BOTTOM LINE!!!
This quote did it. I won't do it.

Thanks again, BMW 4 Life.

I'm not sure you're right (and I was also a VQ owner). The VQ engine architecture clearly predates the Nissan/Renault alliance. Renault does use a 3.5L Nissan VQ engine in the Vel Satis and the Espace, but I think that the 3.5 and now the 3.7L VQ designs are Nissan's.

Either way - it's a great engine.

your right about that.

nissan makes the most V6 engines in the world (apparently) but the VQ unit was produced for renault (by nissan) for the european V6 championships in 2001.
on my 2006 skyline 350gt (r35) just above the starter motor it is stamped "renaultsport VQ"............

lol Why not lease a Hyundai Genesis which has 10 year warranty, n is roomier, stronger, quicker, more gadgets, best fuel economy in its class, nice nice interior and same audio system that rolls-royce phantom uses?

seems like u are lost,, u were wanting most bang for the buck in an auto? or was it pursuit of the feeling that you can not get from driving a car other than bmw?

Korean cars are the trash-est of all trashes.

I just traded in my 05 G35 sedan for an 09 535X drive. The G is one heck of a car. If I had the choice even up I obviously would take the BMW, but with a 20G spread between a new G and my new BMW the decision gets tougher, much tougher. The G has much more room than the 3 series and is comparable to the 5 size wise. Going from a G to a BMW is more exciting than going from a BMW to a G for me that is as I had done both as my car before the G was a 95 540.

If you take the position you only live once, the BMW is the choice, if you get sick when you look at your 401K then go with the G.
