Hello,

For those of you who have the heads up display (HUD) on the windshield:

1) Is it tough on your eyes on a long ride late at night when you're tired?

2) Can it be turned on and off?

thanks,

Dean

1) - No - Not tough on the eyes at all on long rides at night. The brightness adjusts automatically getting brighter and dimmer on sunny days, direct light, bright brake lights from car in front in traffic etc and can be adjusted manually also via i-drive and with the dashboard illumination dial. I Covered 1500+miles in 48hours to Germany and back and I fell in love with it on that journey.

2) - Yes - it can be turned off but in the 14months I've had my car I've not turned it off once...ok I have tried turning it off just to see what it's like but after a few minutes I miss it and put it back on.

Please bear in mind that I have M5 so I have my HUD permanently showing the M-display (rev counter, gear with speed in small font). When I am going somewhere with sat-nav I change from the M-view to normal view so I have all my directions on HUD and speed is shown in much larger font, which I assume is the only view available on non-M cars(?). It comes as standard on UK M5's but I will definitely order it on any car I get in the future (if available), i feel lost without it when I drive other cars now.

scoopz nailed it -- even if you don't have an M5...

Love it. Only wish they would display the tach in HUD. Anyone know if that is in the cards via future CIP upgrades?

I have had heads up display in the past 2 cars prior to my 535. The orange color of the display is very easy on the eyes. So no fatigue is place on your eyes.

And yes it can be turned off. But I dont see why you would want too.

I cant live with HUD.!

no fatigue and the brightness is dynamically controlled via a light sensor. Just beautiful !

W/o HUD your eyes get tired! HUD helps staying staying awake.
