Default Hpfp failure damaged spark plugs?

Hey everyone had a interesting expierence this week. My wife's 535xi had its 3rd hpfp fail at a little over 100k miles. Took it to the dealer and had it replaced under warranty, while at the dealer they pulled codes for low fuel pressure and what not related for a bad pump. They then called the next day and said oh yeah your spark plugs are bad and causing a misfire and the oil filter housing gasket is leaking. They wanted 1700 dollars. These codes were NOT present when my wife dropped off the car. We declined. Back to my question. Has anyone had a bad fuel pump fowl their spark plugs? Right now Im pretty sure that they damaged them during their "free find issues inspection." Either way my wife took the car back and changed the spark plugs.

A few notes. I changed my spark plugs, fuel filter at 90k before I deployed. Oem Bosch plugs and filter. The last pump that went out took all the injectors with it as well covered under the extended warranty.

I refuse to pay 400 bucks for spark plugs at the dealer but don't know if I should demand they pay for damaging them. Any comments or suggestions would be awesome.

Spark plugs are not removed in HPFP change.
Low fuel pressure on a turbo engine can cause lean mixture and that can cause detonation and and detonation breaks spark plug insulators.
Direct injection turbocharged engines are well known for damaging spark plugs when fuel system faults that lean mixture occur.
When damaged spark plugs lose pieces inside cylinder then more severe, even complete, engine damage can occur.
They may have removed a spark plug to inspect and suggested replacement due to damage observed.
