I been looking at other forums and people have said that an 02 745i has had several problems. The reason I'm asking is because I'm interested in one. It has 26000 miles it comes with 6 year 100,000 mile warranty. Would it be worth it or is this cars still unreliable?

Even the 2005 7 series has alot of problems, if you go with a 2002 get ready to LIVE in the service department of your dealership.

 

I drove the 2002 735I and the 2003 735LI previously.

The 735I gave me no problems and except for 1 visit to the workshop for software upgrade, there was no other visit. But then I only drove the 735I for only about 6 months.

I bought the 735LI as a replacement. There were quite a few visits to correct software problems initially but the car behaved well enough after all the bugs were sorted out. I got itchy and switched to the 545I after driving it for about 17 months. sometimes I wish I hadn't made the switch. Nothing beats the comfort level of the LI.

IMO, there is no reason to avoid the 745I, but please ensure that you check the history of your intended buy before jumping in. BMWs are built on electronics and really its a matter of luck. There will always be a lemon every now and then.
