Unfortunately many new modules do require setup by inputting the vin number of your vehicle, so the module knows vehicle order, in order to function properly. With a used working module that came out of same model and year e60, more time than not you can get away without scrubbing the old vin and inserting your vin. Tool set 32 is used to cleanup old module, then ISTA or INPA to encode your vin. Use realoem.com to ensure you are obtaining a compatible part by checking for original part number or acceptable superseded part number/numbers.

Usually they don't take those modules back once it's been opened. If they do then you have a good seller.
