Has anyone heard of this or know anyone who's tried it out?

http://gromaudio.com/store/usb_adapt...d_car_kit.html

It's the BMW Mini 98-06 GROM USB Bluetooth Android iPod adapter

It seems like a better alternative than doing the ipod adapter, besides, my ipod battery sucks now and I don't want to get sucked into another Apple product that has "planned obsolescence" engineered into it. I eventually want to sell my ipod and use good 'ol USB flash drives for music.

I know the new BMW's have it built it but mine doesn't cuz it's older.

Any thoughts on doing this way?

LOL, This is what BMW will do. When you have an issue they'll blow it out of proportion to have you buy one of their newer Bimmers. Sadly, most will fall for it!

As far as answering your question, I have seen this working, I believe it just takes the place of anadditional audio souce (cd changer) and gives you several options from there. I didn't ask if the USB actually charges the a though.

It should work fine with the CD Changer pre-out in your glovebox just have the car coded to add a CD changer if you don't have one. If you do then I'd assume no coding required. Of course there may be a little wiring that needs to be done but I've seen it in an E60.

subscribed if achtung is correct then I want to do this as well a cheap way to get music over bt plus usb thumb drive, I probably would never use the thumb drive though because I am one of the suckers who bought an already obsolete ipod touch 2nd gen LOL. that being said my car is pre wired for cd changer and I do have ncs expert on my pc it seems like a win I just need you to be the guinea pig and confirm the wiring changes
