so US is not the same as HK with the stock wheels
I am not sure that it is the same as HK, but in the U.S., only MY 04 E60 525i had the 16" standard...

When I see another e60 on the road, I find myself sometimes looking at/for:

1. The exhaust and the number
2. The wheels
3. The trim
4. The e60 cling
5. The driver.

. . . and thinking, he/she might be a member . . . so I better behave myself.

What do you do?

For U.S. cars, I'm an expert which isn't difficult. I can tell a 530 sport from 545/50 sport just by the ride height. Objective evidence you ask? I can id these when they wear all season tires.

Cling?

For minute, I thought you where gifted somehow by just looking at the height of the car . . . cause a 530i sport can have 124 18" and it would be hard to tell without looking at the exhaust or signature.
