Alright guys... time for a stupid newbie question.

Based on the previous posts, the cost of buying in the USA is less than buying in Germany (after translating cost to USD).

This being the case, what is the advantage of getting European Delivery?

I remember years ago, the dollar was very strong vs. the Mark, so the cost savings more than made up for the prep/shipping/duty costs. Is the higher cost simply VAT that you can avoid when shipping out of the EU? Or do you pay more for ED simply to get a configuration you really want that is not available in the States?

When selecting ED, you still buy the car with your dealer in the US in USD. You just pay less as compared to the US MSRP, since the ED prices are about 7% lower, and that is without further negotiations.

Of course you have to wait another 6-8 weeks for your car to get to the US, after you have already had the pleasure of driving it in Europe for a while.

I see. Thanks. I remember going to Germany in the 1970s. Back then I knew a few people that would buy German cars through local German dealers. Because of the favorable USD exchange rates, many were set up to deal with Americans, outfit the car for the US (US measurements, emission equipment, etc.) and arrange for shipping.

This is what I had in mind when I heard about ED. Looks like the system has come a long way.

Thanks,

-Joe

In the US the cars are cheaper but we get a--raped for what we pay to make others rich (medical, dental, drugs, political, insurance of all kinds, etc). And we get services from the gov't cut all the time, especially by the greed based Republicants who reward the people who don't need the money with all kinds of perks.

Aren't you concerned about the effect your Z06 has on the environment?

Shouldn't you be on the Prius Board?
