I noticed that I was a little low on my 05 545i so i added a little over a quart about a week ago. car has been driving fine for the last 400 or so miles since ive added the extra oil until tonight. A CEL came on and it was diagnosed as "increased emissions." I checked my oil level and noticed that my oil is to the top of the spear just about the max mark, not quite touching the metal. I have parked the car and plan to pick up an oil extractor to remove some of the excess oil from the dipstick fill. Should I be concerned? And can i reset this CEL?

Make sure your gas cap is on tightly.

Hmmm reason I figured they were related was because I searched reasons for the CEL and someone on bimmerfest with a 645ci had the same problem.

And double check your oil filler cap too. That will trigger the CEL!

if i were you i'd go to Autozone and check the error message. i got the message twice already, once for Crankshaft valve & the next time for "Secondary Air System" with "increased emissions" message on the idrive.
