I had one back in '78, driving my first new car, a '78 Ford Mustang V8. The tire was a "General" and when I took it in for a warranty adjustment, the service center said it blew apart due to low inflation. They refused to make the tire good. That car did not go a week without me checking the pressure (way before the FTM system in the BMW) in those tires. I drove the car directly to a Michelin dealer and replace all four of those pieces of junk. Never owned another General tire, never will.

Personally never had a blowout but a collegue has had a double (rear)blowout so will probably stick with the RFT's just in case.

Some model of tyres are better than the stock so i will choose them when up for replacements...

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets. First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.

Only one in E39 (540iS 6 spd) with OEM Dunlop Sport 2000, right rear, high temps, high speed, already badly worn inside tread (no replacements available in USA that summer). Car handled perfectly. Didn't really know what it was until I slowed down and pulled off Interstate.

However, I cannot vouch for it being a determining factor for my continued use of thumpflats.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

Or carry a can of Tyre Weld to use on non RFT's and get the same result for a few dollars.
