Well DD, I'm glad you prefer what you have.
But I would not have bought our 535xi wagon (ahem, estate to you) if it was an automatic.
In my opionion, The Ultimate Driving Machine should be about involvement, as well as efficiency and entertainment.
I love snick-snicking through all 6-gears. It eliminates the boredom of traffic and makes the twisty roads extra fun. I know the automatics can be shifted manually... just like the pretend cars in video games. Anybody can do it. It's not a real stick... you have to be real good to keep a real stick from feeling "Clunky". Hmmm.
If you're satsified with what you have, great. I think video games are fun too, just not real.
When we bought our wagon in July 2008 there were 250 new 5er wagons available in the U.S, and just 4 of them were 6-speed sticks.
Please don't be insulted, but your car would bore me. I'm glad you prefer what you have. Just don't imply your preference is superior. Automatics, like Mercedes-Benzes, are great... for old people!

Not to kick a hornets nest but we could have the same discussion about a wagon (sorry, estate!) vs a sedan or even a sedan vs a coupe.

It is rather hard for someone to ask others to respect your opinion when you don't afford the same courtesy in return... Telling someone to not be insulted when you just described their likes and version of the car as "like a video game, just not real" is a bit of a stretch.

I quite like the idea of using my Wii controller in it's wheel (that's used for Mario Kart) to control my Bimmer

I will be shopping for an E60 next summer. I'm looking for Orient Blue, tan leather, sports, cold weather and premium packages, and three pedals. I'll take Sapphire Black instead of Orient Blue, but I will not compromise on a manual transmission.

I was originally looking for Deep Sea Blue with Nat Brown. All three packages and stick.
I was coming from a black 99 528.
I ended up with a Black Sapph. Black interior, Anthracite Headliner with All three packages and stick.
Couldn't be happier. I would take a black interior over tan anytime now. Especially with the headliner.
Hold true to the stick, but be open to other possibilities.
