I've got a 2004 530i also, my production time was 09/03. I forgot how I found out, but its associated with your VIN number.
You can find a tool online and look up your vin through a website (not sure which one) and enter the last 7 digits of your vin.. or was it the first 7 digits of your vin... either case, it should tell you what's up with your car.
