Mate these cars are pretty much unstealable. Apart from either getting hold of the key or towing it away, theres not much they can do. Did you know that once you lock the car with the fob from the outside, you CANNOT open the door from the inside at all. At least you cant on my E39, so if they smash a window and try to pull the inside door handle, they'll find the handle is just all floppy and useless.

there is a little firm in london at present that sit by a "chosen car" with a box of tricks, and when the owner "blips" the remote, the villans record the signal, and duplicate it later..
The code is a 256-bit code which whould take forever to brute-force attack. Duplicating an old code doesn't achieve anything, it won't open the car.
Most systems even reject ANY code after a number of tries. You need to open the car with the key in the doorlock and then start the car with your key to disable the alarm.
Keyfobs (wireless keys) work via an encrypted system that uses a rotating code for every transaction. Practically unbreakable too.
(Even my old car had this system)
But:
There are system on the market that when in the car (simple, just smack the window) will allow you to start the car without a key.
Most plug into the OBD2 plug and some specific wires under the steering wheel.
These system are quite pricey and 99,99% of the thieves out there won't have one, but it's amazing how far you can get with a laptop and an interface.
Remember: NOTHING is unstealable. It's just how hard you want to make it.
530isport:
You still have both keys? Won't be that hard to get your insurance to pay out if you have both of them. Just pick up a new car.

my 535d is barametric, meaning you would need my fingerprint to unlock/start the car.
insurance is the way to go...its only a car at the end of the day.
