Just switch to standard suspension, springs + shocks, there's even DIY on this forum.
There isn't much to loose really if you go with OEM standard setup, you will only notice the difference if you race the car.

17" wheels will definitely improve ride comfort, that's what I switched to from 19" stock, plus will give you better protection from potholes.

A lot of first time BMW owners are surprised at how "unsoft" the ride is....especially if you are running RFTs...they literally double the harshness of the ride. I switched fro RFT to non-RFT Michelins and the difference was unreal. Since you are already running non-RFTs...you might try a larger sidewall tire..ie..17"...or different brand of tire. Also, reducing your tire pressure will help quite a bit.

I have the sport setup....was wondering why my ride was a little rough when going over specific cracks in the road and railroad tracks etc...
There's no cheap solution brother. Sorry. But on the flip side....if you were to go ahead and take that exit ramp at 85mph and you'll see how it handles compared to smooth riders.

How long have you had the car? How may miles on the car? Is it the original suspension? I had a similar issue when I got my 2004 525 with the Sport package in 2008 with about 45K miles on it. I noticed the suspension started to ride harsher once it passed 60K, I thought it unusual but after parking it next to a similar car with less mileage, I noticed my car sat lower. The dealer says the suspension was the original but it was sitting lower (they adjusted the active steering and some other things but it never got better), someone suggested the suspension might need to be changed, looked like the car was driven hard. Not sure what the real deal was, I eventually traded it before finding out. Some of the other here who upgraded their suspensions may have some advice. Who knows, the change to a different setup may help.

See if anyone in your are has done that and ask for a ride in their car and decide which one is right for you. Good luck.

The suspension is sport package stock and the car has 81k miles. I want to try replacing the shocks with Koni FSD for a better ride. When do oem shocks need to be replaced?

hahaha when you see the car bouncing up and down like it has hydraulics everytime it goes over a bump. Apparently some think thats the "cool" way to ride these days.....that and 26" rims on a Bonneville
If you have 81K miles I think your shocks have about another 80K left in them....unless they're leaking. You have a sport suspension, get used to it. Maybe your shock absorbers do need replaced though.

Sounds like you want to switch out your shocks...I say go for it. Don't forget to let us know how it works for you.

Downgrading to 17's would help some since you will then have more rubber profile.

+1

There are harder riding mid sized sport sedans out there. Try an Infiniti M45 or M56 with sport package. They make the E60 with sport suspension seem positively cushy riding.

Personally, every time I've loaned non-sport suspension E60s, I despise driving them. The ride is so imprecise and has so much body loan and lack of body control. To me, the sport suspension makes a BMW a BMW. The controlled ride is the essence of a BMW to me. There are other cars with more horsepower. But few have the E60's with sport suspension ride/handling balance.
