I have often worried about turning off the nanies but then I remember that I drove an E39 M3 with none of them for 10 years.
Many scary moments!!

My E60 firstly is less powerful and even with the electronics off is probably a lot more dynamically stable than my old M3 which now would be 12 years old.

My wife's VW Polo has skinny tyres, no ABS and no ESP / DSC+ / DTC / TRC / OU812 and whatever other safety acronyms you can think of.

It only has 88bhp, but I still have to drive it more carefully than my car.

I'm no race driver, but I started out driving in very unsophisticated cars, where mistakes can easily hurt you despite only very limited power.

I span out my first car (RWD Ford Cortina) several times, but fortunately avoided crashing into anything hard.

If you switch of the e60's safety aids, then you just have to start again slowly to learn what the car (and you) can do without them and always be mindful of your own (in my case limited) abiblity.

Fortunately, I don't think it's possible to turn of the ABS and in such a big, fast car I wouldn't want to.

 

it is. Theres a safety switch in the engine bay.. but i was told by bmw bulgaria not to reveal where it was... lawsuits i suppose

No problem here with the control, except some obvoius and normal fishtailing that occurs when very dry and because of the lack of lsd and rather big weight.

Anyway...i'm overweight only by 5 kilos. I struggle to stay in shape and in the ideal weight but it's kinda hard. 5 kilos extra can produce some fishtailing.... So in a way i'm responding to the topic. By loosing weight you can improve your steptronic performance...ALOT
