You could probably cover the sensor (wherever it is on the mirror face) with an opaque patch. But, why would you need to do that? I find the feature unobtrusive and helpful. When I drive a car without autodim I find it annoying to have to flip it manually to minimize headlight glare from (some) following vehicles.

If you covered it like that, then would it turn on the auto-dimming?

I don't believe there is a switch to control this feature. It's auto-dimming.

Why would you want to? It's an automatic feature, so by definition it will not usually work when you don;t want it to.

For city driving, I don't like the dimming level either. It is much too dim for me to feel comfortable driving in the city and changing lanes quickly in traffic. If I take a long highway drive, I think the stock dimming level is fine.

There are two sensors on the mirror. One sensor faces the windshield and one faces the cabin. The one facing the cabin you can see in the top middle of the mirror. It is about the 5 mm diameter.

I've thought about disassembling the mirror and putting in a switch, but I haven't messed with it.

The way the sensor works is by comparing the light coming into each sensor and adjusting the dimming accordingly.

For me, if I cover over the sensor on the mirror only, I get the right amount of dimming for city driving.

What I've done is cut a paper punch hole size piece of plastic and placed it over the sensor on the mirror. I take it off for an extended highway drive. I find the best thing to use is a piece of that plastic decal stuff that doesn't really have any adhesive, but just clings to glass. Like the little Jiffy Lube reminder stickers they put on your windshield. You can get that decal stuff at any auto parts store. Just get any cling-type sticker (like a Harley sticker) and cut a little piece out.

I think you'll find this is what you want.

Although I like the auto dimming feature (in the city or on the highway), I agree that this approach should work out...

I don't think the clown nose is supposed to turn but if it does actually turn, it's not hooked up to anything that would make a difference in mirror dimming...
