It's a shame that BMW responds to competition and keeps it's product line competitive.

I'm thankful I can drive such a car. 5 digits ain't sh!t, it beats the hell out of driving a VW or something. If you are that concerned about devaluation you shouldn't be driving this particular car. First year cars also are exposed to a great deal of adjustment and makeover throughout the product lifecycle.

Agree that keeping up is important, but couldn't they keep the same displacement and make the engine better...that keeps up the value of my car and keeps them competitive. I keep telling myself "self, this time I'm going to keep this car for a long time"...but everytime something happens to "force" me to buy a new one...good marketing but pisses me off too.

I am happy because now I can get an even more powerful car to replace my 540. I was not thrilled when the new e60 was rolled out, knowing I now had an outdated car. But, I still love my car and its still a great car, the same one I have enjoyed for about 4 years. So, you 545 owners should not worry too much, you still have a fantastic car. Its the same car that has given you great driving pleasure and should continue doing the same. Focus on what you have, not what you don't have and you will continue to enjoy it. I don't think your values will suffer. It may actually open up the market for your car to more people that can't afford the 550. However, nothing will solve the envy issue, but a new 550.

Yeah, but Dinan has some toys coming out for the 545i that'll give it some "chutzpah" and that won't hurt the factory warranty or your wallet either.

This as opposed to trading in one's 545i for a 550i!

Besides if a 550i pulls up next to me, i'm sure we'll have mutual respect and not look to drag race each other but the Benz pulling up from behind us.

Why do you think they will call it a 550 in place of the 545?
The previous E39 "545" was still called a 540.
The "logic" of the displacement matching the model number doesn't always happen with BMW.

Some people will be disappointed their new "550" may still say 545 on the rear...

As the 550 is an untested engine in the 5er, it will likely be buggy and have a frequent flyer card at the local dealership service center.

A whole new group of SUCKERS will fall to the usual first-year BMW Blues and they'll be longing for a 2005 545 ! I'd buy a 545 now at a discount or sit out the year.
