I don't remember where I read it, but I recall BMW not liking pass through to remain rigitity and reduce flex in the vehicle. Does anyone recall this info?

You will only be able to do this if you have the Through Load Option with the split seats. Otherwise you have fixed seats.
This is one of those options where I feel BMW are taking the p*ss. This is standard on most cars.

My Ride: 535d M Sport / Carbon Black Metallic / Aluminium cube / black leather sports seats / Prof. SatNav / Bluetooth.
I read somewhere the lack of fold-down seats was related to vehicle security - can't get into the boot if you smash the window and climb into the passenger cell.

It's not super hard to get in there if you don't have fold down seats. You just need a socket set, and some Torx head sockets and a long large flat head screwdriver.
The rear seat bottom lifts up and out, then you remove some torx bolts securing the rear seat upright, and then you trip the two safety latches from the inside of the trunk ( under the rear window deck). This would be the only problem if you battery was dead and you could not get in there, but if that was the case you could jump it or trickle charge it enough to pop the trunk.
Done....
actually it take like 15-20 mins to do. It helps if you have a second set of hands since the seat parts are pretty big, but it can be done with one person.
