How do i know when my clutch is on its way out?

I tried to do a bad ass burn out in my 545i and I slipped the clutch because I didn't aggressively engage the clutch. same as you probably. After that I slammed into it again and the clutch held great. That was the last time I did any burnouts and my clutch feels fine with no slippage on everyday driving. I had 78k miles on the original clutch at the time.

You are right - should have chose my words more carefully. My point is the trannies in these cars aren't designed to handle many clutch dumps from 5k either. Under normal condttions a tranny wouldn't fail before the clutch - but abuse like this would suggest otherwise. With a good clutch you can do burnouts from 2-3k but it will still wear out your tranny faster. BTW BMW doesn't make their trannies, ZD or Borg and Warner supplies them (I can't remember which makes auto or manual)
