With 'Active' steering the physical lock-to-lock is under 1 turn regardless of speed.
Or 1.5... or... 1.7 or... errr.... AND is speed dependent!

I know its the steering feel but how would I know if its really there? The salesman told me its there... but I don't know cause I don't want to be cheated of fooled before buying a used e60 525..

Kind of wired question actually...

Look for this under the hood. Not sure of the placement on all models but on a 545 it is locted just behind the right headlight in the engine compartment.

Ok, I'll give you 1.5 but I was sure mine doesn't turn more than 180 degrees from centre...

However, my point about speed dependent is that the lock-to-lock doesn't vary whatever speed. (Although try applying full lock at 100mph ) Sorry for the confusion...

No confusion on my part. No need to apologise.

"Around town tight turns need minimal effort, with 1.7 turns lock to lock.

At motorway speeds, where quick steering response is undesirable, the system reverts to three turns lock to lock"

"AFS actually changes the steering ratio (the number of turns of the steering wheel required to turn the road wheels from lock to lock) while you drive."

The system may provide the equivalent gearing of 3 turns lock-to-lock I don't think the physical lock-to-lock changes...?

Well black is white and white is black and... you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Let me try to interpret..."AFS actually changes...the number of turns of the steering wheel required to turn the road wheels from lock to lock while you drive"

Hmm... there must be a different meaning I can come up with...

I'm with you... I've been thinking about it and I guess the lock is caused by the rack hitting the end-stop therefore the physical lock-to-lock does change What I was trying to say didn't come over clear so I'll stop

I blame the heatwave
