You'll not get an accurate info from the iDrive hidden menu... but do a search to find out how-to.
You can also try to have your dealer do a key read from your fob and get the print key data from SAM report to find out the integration level info.

I purchased a 2006 550 with NAV Pro. How can I check which software version it has installed?

CIP was the original method of identifying the common collection of software on a MOST bus equipped BMW (e60/61/63/64/65/66/70/71/82/88/90/921/92/93). Then it became PROGMAN and now it is ISTA/P. The numbering system has changed somewhat but the recognizable part still exists. What was 33.01 is now 2.33.1. Dealers may still tell you 33.1 rather than include that first "2". Another problem is that the BMW software numbering system was one way but the installation hardware/software/display system truncated the number. So for example 30.00.01 would become 30.0.1 and 30.01.00 would become 30.1 and that is what the dealer MIGHT (if at all) tell you was installed.
33.0 (2.33.0) was distributed via DVD and 2.33.1 is being sent out now if not already in dealer hands via BMW INTRANET. 2.33.2 is in work now to fix some F01/F02 issues. You should also be aware that just because there is a new ISTA/P (formerly PROGMAN formerly CIP) that does not mean the 5/6 series had any changes. All vehicles are under the umbrella release, but it is possible some models are not impacted. The real prove of the pudding is in the Target Data Status (TDS) that really tracks the software level in the vehicle. For example, the 5 changes in PROGMAN/ISTA/P from 31.2 to 2.32.2 had no change in TDS for the 5/6 software.
25.00.00 was the version that contained a major change to NAV and graphics colors. Since that time subtle fixes including turbo performance (lag) have been addressed but little if any "enhancements".
