I picked up a new E60 530d this week and noticed that it chimes 3 times on the hour, has anyone else noticed this? It is enabled in Display Settings > Clock > Message Memo.

I can't remember seeing this in my previous E60, is this a new feature which was added in V12.x?

No, it's not new. As a matter of fact, the E39 had the function as well.

The one thing that's different, thank goodness, is that with the version 12 software upgrade, the volume of the beeping is significantly reduced.

Thanks Rudy, I'm wondering if this is one of these strange little extras that comes with advanced A/C?

I didn't have advanced A/C in my last car and quite a few of the iDrive menu settings are different as a result of having it - although they are not air conditioning related, e.g. Bord Info is replaced with OBC, which has a stopwatch, a journey computer and a speed limit alarm, all of which were not present in my previous car.

I don't have Nav as I live in Northern Ireland and the coverage is limited.

Jmcaiado, maybe it is something that has just been introduced in Europe.

I received my ride back a couple of days ago with the chime selection.
It's from a new software update.

I'm pretty sure the function was there before the software update, maybe just located under a different menu structure.

There is a reference to the function on page 74 of the electronic version of the manual (page 76 of the actual .pdf file) located here. It used to be under the 'i' menu under "display settings" then "time". It was called "hour memo" and had a checkbox to activate or de-activate it.

Maybe it was moved and now more people are noticing it?

Using the hour memo and it works pretty good. Had to turn it on myself.
