I seem to recall that there was an engine change somewhere between the time I bought my '04 e60 and the one I bought ('07) last week. I took it on a road trip and only got about 27mpg, and on my older one, I routinely got 31mpg on road trips.

Anyone remember what the engine change was all about?

Thanks,

James

Usually, increase power output, increase gas consumption, although BMW claim it saves gas on N52 engine over M54.

The new N52B30 engine was intruduced in 03/05.

It has more power, in lower torgue and at higher rews!
Makes today 315 Nm at 2750 rpm and 265 hp (130i and Z4 3.0si).
The engine is also more environment saving!

The increase in gas consuption comes from the one who uses the throttle.

Check out the (E90-93) new R6 twin turbo N54B35 engines values:
306 hp and 400 Nm from 1500 rpm...
Copes the Euro 5 pollution rates...

Just wait for the new N54 Direct Injection engines coming with the E60 facelift in Sept 07.
Also the new 550i will have DI!

please help me clarify.

isnt the new N54 direct injection engine currently in the e90 335i (twin turbo), going to be in the upcoming e60 535i ( or whatever name they decide on)?

i hope it will make sooner than sept 07, any hopes?
Is it bmw's plan to introduce this engine with its face lift of the e60?

also what is the benefit or technological advancement on DI direct injection?

thanks.

and yes higher consumption is to be expected for the 20 or so more power gain.
and your car has not been run in yet so consumption will fluctuate for a while still.

I don't think we can claim any engine is 'environment saving'
