I'll bet the complainers drive significantly over the speed limit or do a bit of illegal and unsafe spirited cornering from time to time and are deeply in denial about these practices being "unsafe and illegal."
All I know is that in my lowly '95 318i and '00 540i (both sport and manual) I could cruise at 100-120 mph easily without constantly making corrections in the steering.

My '07 530i sport is a bit scary at maintaining that speed.

I am in the office around 5:30am every day.
At that time our roads are quite empty and high speed, is literally not a problem.
I hit 120 mph this morning. I have faith in my constant visual scan and my Valentine One...
Honestly I only endanger myself.

You are right that I care little about my nefarious activities as my tint is illegal (20%) and I am still riding on my Euro Delivery plates (real plate in trunk)...

Oh no!!! Not unsafe and illegal tint. Hope no one complains. By the way, I have never had problems like yours with my car. I haven't gone beyond the unsafe and illegal 120 MPH, but I tend to cruise at unsafe and illegal speeds of 80 MPH to 100 MPH. And, your car looks great. I think your illegal plate is safe enough for us to discuss it.

In my state the plate is a NON-MOVING violation.
So I will use it for months.

But I too cruise on open highways 100-120mph and am 10 yrs with no tickets thanks to being careful and the almighty Valentine One.

My annual NC-ME trip is coming up (1050 mi each way) so we will see how that goes.

I have a V1 too and haven't received a ticket in years--except 40 in a sneaky 30 speed limit on a 4 lane, generally "high-speed" road radar trap. If fact, this trap is the reason I got the V1. I decided to fight back. I wouldn't mind a ticket for going too fast on the highway, but I decided not to stand for the really nit-picky radar-trap stuff. I also bought one of the tricky license-plate covers--which are neither unsafe nor illegal in Arizona.

That is one thing that I don't miss about the states. When I come back from Germany I am going to have issues. Going 90mph seems like 45mph to me now. Good thing that the Bimmer has the adjustable speed warning.

UPDATE: BMW recall extends beyond China
Posted Jul 14th 2006 3:29PM by John Neff

Contrary to what we reported in an earlier post, BMW's most recent recall has not been confined to China, but includes 46,000 5-, 6-, and 7-Series models built between January 9th and April 18th of this year and sold throughout the world.

The problem apparently involves defective rubber bushings in the rear shocks that could loosen and lead to handling problems and loss of vehicle control. BMW blames its supplier for the issue that was caught before anyone was injured as a result, but the recall will cost the German automaker an estimated 16 million euro.
Great Post. I think this may be my problem. I jacked up the vehicle and checked the rear strut. The lower mounting bushing has quite a bit of play in it. The mounting design could have been better. There is only a bolt leading through to the top of the hub assy. Seems like they would have at least made it a pinch bolt. Should have made a different mounting on top of the hub. It looks like a hard enough impact could break the bolt, or the hub. I could twist the strut a little with my hand, but when I put a open end 19mm wrench between the hub and the bottom of the strut I could move it efortlessly. The bushing has Sachs stamped on it. Sachs primary sales are Struts, and clutches in Germany. seems like urathane would be a good replacement bushing. The collar on the bushing looks like it could slide through the strut, and the bolt doesn't have a large washer to keep the head from passing through. Realy looks like a bad design.

Hopefully this will solve my problem. Will post results once replaced.
