Default High Pressure fuel hose quick-disconnect

When I started the car this morning it wouldn't start; it is as if it ran out of fuel. My investigation pointed me to the leaking hose quick disconnect. It is strange since the lock ring is still in place and yet the hose was disconnected. I push the hose back into place and restarted the car. Everything was fine, but I'm afraid this can happen again.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation?

If that hose was disconnected, fuel should be coming like crazy because fuel pump will be trying to pressurize the system. Was there any work done on the car recently?

never seen that before Joe, it wasn't cracked? A lot of those fittings are plastic and get brittle over time, but never seen one simply disconnect. Considering the babying your car has I'm pretty surprised. To say you take exceptional car of your car is an understatement.

Oh yeah! A lot of fuel came out while i was cranking the starter a couple of times before I went to look under the hood. There was a puddle of fuel under the engine (in garage) and the whole house smell of 91 octane fuel. I now drive with a small fire extinguisher on the driver side door pocket.

Someone in your house or your neighbor doesn't like you... :-)

I can't explain how that connector came off. While I was trying to remove the intake manifold on my 2006 car, I tried to remove that fuel connector. It was on pretty tight.

Anyone worked on the car just prior to this incident? You have to figure out how that connector came off...

Thanks John! It really was a surprise since the only way to disconnect the hose from the pipe (from fuel pump/tank) is to remove the lock ring and push-in the coupler (See picture).

I just had this happen on my 2010 535i as well. I had noticed a fuel smell while the car was idling and started to look for the source of the smell. I found it dripping a small amount from the fuel hose connector. I believe my connector came loosened somehow but not completely disconnected so fuel didn't spew everywhere. After looking at the photos above I disconnected it completely and was able to put it all back the way it was supposed to be, I heard it click into place. Ran the car around my neighborhood for a few miles and checked for any leaks or drips and none to be found. I did put a small fire extinguisher in the car with me though, good advice above. I guess I will just keep an eye on it to see if there are any future problems with it. On the 535i the connector is yellow, other than that it looks nearly identical to photos above.
