Man, this is my pet-peeve right now! Because of the US speed limits, the dealer cannot justify his techs going that fast to replicate the problem. I STILL WANT IT FIXED! I'm trying to meet with the BMW service manager and the BMW rep that comes about once-a-month to see what he can do about it. The dealer doesn't want to do anything if there's no service bulletin or somethin'.

It had happened to me. The cause is badly glued winshield, glue missing in one little pinpoint - air goes in and makes noise. Went for a ride with SA and while the noise he pushed the winshiled hard towards out of the car and it was quiet. Therefore he agreed THe one and only solution is to have winshield replaced for new one. It is under warranty for free. It takes two days (one overnight for the glue to dry)

NOTE: This way I asked for a new window with the green sunshield on top instead of the regular one. since they were going to exchange it anyway You just have to beg your SA a little, the price of regular and with the green stripe is almost the same

I had to change my windscreen 2 weeks ago because of chip/crack, so hopefully
the problem is gone since it was resealed anyway.

Did BMW change your window under the warranty?

I also have a chip in the windshield, about 11mm. wide but haven't done anything to it.

Does anyone else know?

Thanks.

Ok I have experienced this recently too...

I was going 130 and I heard this squeal, but I also lost Sirius reception at the same time (went under an overpass), so I thought it was somehow related to the sat radio signal cutting out. I guess it is my windshield...

So any update from the owners with this issue?
Has a technical bulletin come out?
If I don't fix it, is there any danger when going at high speeds? (will my windshield fly off?)

Hey, I get the same annoying noise here. Friday I had it from the passenger seat and the rear, when I was driving through the mountains with my wife and her sister...
I wish BMW would fix this problem...
I fixed my whining noise, but the windshield noise is still there. Just explain that you are testing a possible defect, and get her to try and figure out where the windshield noise is coming from. The technic is called, "Distraction."

I don't think this is parts defect. More like an assembly line snafoo that must have affected a few cars. Counting me there a 4 including me on this forum. And many E60 drivers don't go over 120mph or don't report it. MEX has the identical symptoms as me. And there is a link to video of the whistle in this thread.

cool. I feel better no need to explain to the dealer about the strange noise over 120 mph. The legal speed limit here is 65 mph
Hmmm... I've heard that the sound appears around 120mph, but goes away again once you get above 140mph or so...
