On occasion I have found myself at 120mph+ and without fail every time I exceed 120 I start to get a high pitched squeal from the right front area of the cabin (at least I think it's inside)...at any rate I?m usually only at those speeds for a few seconds so I really haven't had the time to contemplate what's going on while it's happening / Not that big of a deal, because as I said, I seldom go that fast...but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced the same...it's probably the rubber around the windshield??

Known assembly defect in several E60s. Listen the last video in this post. He gets the whistle at 140mph. When I did ED last summer the whistle would start right at 120mph. It drove me crazy because I was regularly cruising above that speed. I had them fix the problem in Rome. The solution I beleive is to have your dealer remove the moldings around the winshield and then re-seal it.

I no longer have this issue. I have taken her up to 145mph. Just wind noise that is to be expected at that speed.

Thanks! ...I love this forum...this is one of those topics I was hesitating to post on because I figured it wouldn't go anywhere...and look what happens...a couple minutes later I find out I'm not the only one and in addition there seems to be a fix! Thanks again

does anyone know if there is a BMW document that addresses this problem? i CANT stand this high pitch whistle anymore, i get it at 120 mph and i just dont go any faster because i cant stop that sound. I talked to my service manager about this and he doesnt have a clue and is pretty reluctant to ride with me at 120! I told him he had to change the windshield or the seals but he had no idea. thanks!

I had it as per my video post above.
I had to change my windscreen 2 weeks ago because of chip/crack, so hopefully
the problem is gone since it was resealed anyway. Still have to do another high speed run.

There must be some official circular from BMW on this problem.

It's scary how effortless it is to hit those speeds in the 545?I mean one second you?re going 80mph?you jam the peddle and before you know it you?re easily passing 120mph.

That's a well known problem.
They have to replace the glue for the windshield!
