The n62b44 and n62b48 are 2 different motors. I suspect that BMW learned how to resolve the various gasket leak issues prior to the transition from the 4.4 to 4.8 block.

Yes, I believe that's what happened, luckily for the 550i people. I did the coolant pipe and the whole round of oil leaks on my 545i at about 110k. It's at 170k now, and nothing currently leaks. I'm expecting it all to start again in a year or two, and I'll just bite the bullet and do it all again. Until then, I'll just glance back at the garage floor when I drive out, and see what color puddles I'm leaving.

I had a look at mine (545) and was trying to figure out where the oil cooler would mount. In front or rad, behind, etc.....
If you look at the pic above, Right in front of the engine support arm are 2 holes. The oil cooler lines contain a thermostat on the end that plugs directly into these holes as one piece. It has 2 M6 screws that keep it in place. The other ends plug into the top and bottom of fan shroud/oil cooler itself.

I believe upgrading to this would solve a majority of your leak problems, long term.

BMW lifetime fluid is considered to be 100k miles. Many discussions on this topic. I have not had any adverse effects doing a drain and fill. I would not recommend a flush ever. I do know that the ZF Lifeguard6 fluid is incredible stuff. Very slick, thick, and bonds to parts like crazy. I think if you kept it OEM and spent the extra money on the real fluid instead of Pentosin ATF1 (which is also good for many applications), you would be just fine. I would recommend under those guidelines.

Pentosin ATF +1 is an OEM fluid and it is real fluid buddy. I think it was you said you work on Bimmers on the side right? Then you should know that.

I didn't reply to you because this isn't your thread and also because I have no idea what car you drive, what your tranny is, how many miles it has on it and so forth and so on.......
