Are there subs in the E60? and if so where are they located ? Also is there a speaker above the idrive screen facing the windscreen or is that just a vent ?
No speaker on the dash, and its not a vent.
At least Logic7 (about Hi-Fi I donno) gives a midrange speaker there.
PS. In the E46 coup? the Business CD gave also a pretty nice sound.

2 months ago I got the same feeling as you now. Waiting for my 520d with the hifi option.
I'm coming from e46 too, and the sound difference between the two is quite big. However I never comparede e60 standard vs hifi. Personally it don't think its that impressive. I usually play techno and dance.
Maybe its me not knowing how to adjust the settings. Anyone of you have some suggestions?
I turned bass and treble to 95% and 75% sound is coming from rear speakers. Otherwise my ears hurts when turning too loud. Is it right to set bass and treble on the same level, or are they more dependent on each other so high bass, low treble or low bass and high treble

msport package, steptronic, pdc, mystik blue, grey dakota leather, sunroof, Bi-Xenon, heated rear seats, Hi-FI system, velour carpets
The Hi-Fi system is great. I have it and I'm very satisfied with it. The car comes with 10 speakers instead of 6 and that makes a difference.

Picked up my 520d this week and also got the HIFI speaker upgrade.
In my opinion they are not as good as in the E90 I had previously and also the bass is poor. But its early days yet and I might be missing a trick (yes I did rack up the Bass to full in idrive!).
Having said that I haven't heard the basic speakers which maybe very poor in comparision.

I added the option after advice on forums, it is MUCH better than the standard system which is really dodgy for a car of this price. You get 10 speakers instead of 6 and a bigger amp.
It's not the Albert Hall but pretty respectable for the price. I couldn't justify the L7 cost.

I too have the Hi-fi system. The Bass is not great but I'm glad I took it because the std would have been rubbish. Another reason I took it was in case I wanted to I can simply replace the sub woofers and the amp that drives them for better bass. No need to rip open the car to add the wiring.
However I still think that upgrading from std UK to Hi-fi is possible as a retrofit but I couldn't confirm it and hence took it as a factory option. It wasn't that much more and Logic 7 was too much.

The dashtop grill is empty until you get to Logic 7
The subs (if you can call them that
) are under the seats on mine (2006 week 10 build). They are quite small and positioned by the seat runners on the floor. If you were looking for what normally passes as subs, you may have missed them.
I am quite surprised how small the speakers are generally.

Agreed. It seems to me that the subs with this option are not located under the front seats.
