I also have the Logic 7 on my one month old car- I agree with most of the comments on this board- there appears to be nothing special about the system. I have a Bose system on my other 4 year old car and that is really something.

Yes I use the surround sound - I have selected the concert hall option- can?t really tell the difference from the Theatre option. This reinforces my view that the Logic 7 has nothing behind the name.

The "quality" of sound is always subjective, but here is my 2 cents:
Yes its subjective but comparing a E60 to a E60 L7 to L7 a PreLCI and LCI car the should be the same if not BETTER. How subjective can that get?

well... it has not even the name anymore... in Italy now is Hi Fi Professional, no more Logic 7 name... this probably shows it has no more anything to do with Logic System...

The new Logic7 Sound System (That is what is called in the US) is inferior to pre LCI E60. I have the same opinion when I compare my 2008 550 to my 2004 545i sound.

The question is, what is BMW going to do to remedy the situation? Will they ignore it as they did with the run flat tires problem in 2004, until the number of complains gets to a certain level?
I suggest we start calling them requesting an answer. When I ordered my 2008 car I expected at least the same quality or better on the Logic 7, but never imagined that it would be inferior.

I for one, will start calling BMW NA and see what the response is, more than likely they will tell me to contact my dealer and the dealer will determine that there is nothing wrong with the system, I have been there before, I was among the first ones to complain about the noisy run flats in 2004, BMW NA referred me to dealer, dealer said that there was nothing they could do, so I bought new tires on my own, a few months later, BMW was replacing tires left and right. I posted my unsatisfaction in this forum, someone from BMWNA read it and they helped me with the cost of the tires. It took almost 2 years before my runflat problem was acknowledged and corrected, I do not want to wait that long with the sound system, I can not just go and buy a new system.

One of the problems we will face with this is the fact that only those who owned a pre LCI E60 can compare and confirm that the new L7 is inferior, those who never had a pre LCI will just think that all BMW L7's are poor (will that be the case from now on?).

I think it would be interesting to find out for sure if the amp was changed and if it has anything to do with the degraded sound quality. As I mentioned before, the LCI car's amp glows but nobody has been able to tell me if the pre-LCI amp glows.

What would be great is if we could get someone to see if the pre-LCI amp works with the LCI car. Maybe someone at one of the meet & greets can give it a try? To me, it sounds like the new amp isn't as clean sounding in the midrange (but it isn't as bad in the low, subwoofer range.)

If a pre-LCI amp makes the LCI sound better, maybe we'll know what to ask for when we bring the issue up with BMW?

Just a thought - can Rudy check out the part numbers for pre and post LCI Logic 7 components? I assume (perhaps wrongly) that if the components are identical, the part number will be the same for pre and post LCI. So perhaps you may be able to find out which (if any / all) hardware is different?

I owned a pre-LCI E60 with Logic 7, but my current E60 has standard audio (boo...). But my new E60 has individual audio specced which I am hoping will be as good/better than the pre-LCI Logic 7. My wife owns an E70 X5 with Logic 7 and the sound is easily as good as, if not better, than the pre-LCI E60 L7.

I don't have current parts information available (although there are people here who do...hint, hint...) or I would have confirmed this theory a while ago.

If someone does want to look up parts, I'd be interested in learning about the L7 amp as well as the speakers. (Keep in mind that there's clearly some software differences too as it pertains to the surround settings.)

Bottom line is that I'd love to know how an LCI car sounds with a pre-LCI amp installed -- I'm thinking it's a plug and play deal...

Where's the amp and when does it glow? I'll go check if you want...

The amp is in the left side of the trunk area.

Here's a picture that Lomag took of that area a while ago when he was showing where the TCU is located:

HI FI Professional/Logic 7-pic2.jpg

As you look at the photo, the TCU has the green dot on it and the L7 amp is the unit that has the sun shining on it (with multiple fans at the top). On my car, you can see light glowing out of the top of the unit but I don't remember for sure under what conditions. I think it actually glows when the stereo is on (or off too until things cool down or something.)

Let us know what you find...

Thanks.

Ah crap... you have to open up the trunk lining? Argh... ya I'm not doing that today. Where's the link that Lomag put up? so I know exactly how to access the Amp? I dont want to stand outside for 30 mins trying to figure out how to take the lining off...

And this is the reason why...
