Me too.
As I do, ABC, in the summer.

But the 245/40 18"'s are too low profile for RF's.

Been driving E60's with RF 225/50 17"'s and they are problemless.

E60's with 18" or larger rims should have non-RF's!

PS. R?ikk?nen is the man now, isn't he

I'm kinda new here. Where's a good place(besides the dealership) to look for wheels? Any good places online?
if youre looking for oem wheels, member quad_m, tony, sells oem wheels as well as m-tech kits, rieger parts, and alpina parts. for any aftermarket wheels, for some ideas, you could check out past thread and/or the member galleries.

I removed 18" run flats from my 530d and put normal tyres on instead. Great improvement in ride and road noise. I have a spare wheel so was not too worried about not having run flats.

BMW's advice was to ensure that I just had to make sure I had the same type of tyres on each axle. So I changed the front 2 first and then a few months later the rears.

What I'm hoping is that, if I do this, that the difference between the RFT's and regular tires is big enough for her to notice. If I go ahead, I would have to change tires anyway. I want all-season tires, and I've heard that the 18's are summer tires(even on the xi models).
Argent60 what's up.

I just bought the 535xi 2 months ago. I'm in the same dilemma with the wheels. My suggestion is buy the car with the 18" sport wheels. Sell your tires, the run flats, and buy the summer sport tires. (I believe the michilen Sp2 are the best ones.) Then search e-bay or the forum and buy the OEM 17's that come with our car. I just saw a set of 4 rims no tires go for $275 on e-bay, (what a shame), and then buy the OEM tires for those wheels. This way will be a whole lot less money that the other alternative which is buy the car with the 17" OME's and buy 18" with tires figure $1400 for rims $200 for pressure sensors and $1200 for tires and then shipping. I've been researching this since I bought my car and we are very limited to what 18" wheels we can use because of the offset that the wheels for the XI has. Either way you should have a winter set and a summer set of wheels.

offset for the e60 I series:
front ET 20
Rear ET 32

offset for the e60 XI series:
Front ET 43
Rear ET 55

Hope this clarifies things for you.

Rick..

Hey Rick-
Yeah, I know. That's what I SHOULD do. It would get me the best performance for each season.

But part of me wants to be lazy and have only one set of all-seasons, and not worry about changing wheels every 6 months. I'll think about it for a while(I've got 4 more weeks before my car comes in).

Thanks for all the info.

I have the same dilemma- the 18" wheels look so much better than the standard 17" on the xi, but I plan to lease and I hate the thought of having to replace the RFT's just to turn the car in after 3 years. I would put snows on for 4-5 monthg per year, which leaves about 24K miles for the RF summer tires before lease turn-in. Does anyone know if I could get that many miles out of the summer RFTs??

My wife and I test drove both a 535xi with the standard 17" regular tires, and also the one with the 18" RunFlats. She hated the RFT's. (I must admit - On the mostly rough roads in my area, the RFT's were a little harsh.) Problem is, I like the looks of the 18" wheels.

Someone chime in here and give me an opinion.

First, a question for those who haven't done it.
Question #1 - Do you think it would make a smoother ride if I got the 18's, and replaced the RFT's with regular tires??

Second, a question for those who have done it.
Question #2 - Has anyone here replaced their RFT's with regular tires?? Was there a noticeable improvement?
I will appreciate any input here.

I have runflats on two of my cars and very soon on all three of our cars will be fitted with R/F. Ride quality might be softer with regular tires, but R/F have saved our bacon twice and I'll never go back to regular tires. Thats just my opinion, others who post on this site have varied opinions about ride quality' good luck with whatever you decide.
