Many of you may recognize me from the water damage thread I had about 1.5 years ago:
https://5series.net/forums/topic/107...1#entry1277480
Basically, the heart and brain of my car were replaced due to clogged storm drains damaging almost every sensor and module in the car. One of the modules replaced was the DME in the e-box. Well 1.5 years later, my DME is malfunctioning, not as a result of any additional water damage but just because. The dealership I used for all the insurance work is claiming they will not warranty the part with the traditional 2 year BMW warranty due to the water damage... I spent (me and insurance) almost $15k to replace the main wiring harness and every sensor and module along with clearing ALL the storm drains only to now have a $1300 module malfunction and not be covered under 2 years later???? I contacted BMW NA and they stated the part should be covered but they cant force the dealership to honor the warranty since each dealership is independently owned.... REALLY??????
BMW NA suggested I use another dealership for the work, but doesn't that avoid the real issue here?? If you install a $1300 DME, and it malfunctions, shouldn't the dealership have to honor the warranty?? And had anyone told me after the $15k in work was done that none of the parts would be warrantied, I would have sold t he vehicle!!
Someone please help here.....

1) If your insurance company covered the repair, they should be able to assist or at least contact the repairing BMW Center.
2) Nothing wrong with trying another BMW Center. It should be covered under warranty, since the module was installed after the water damage.

Unfortunately if a BMW center did the warranty repair it will be known to the other dealership as well. They may or may not cooperate (dealership) and yes, every dealership is independently owned.
