I got an error on the console that stated "SOS Emergency System Malfunction" and bluetooth connection stopped working also. Has anyone else had this error before? What does it mean? I don't even know what the SOS Emergency System is. Thanks in advance.

Sorry can't help much but I always thought SOS has to do with BMW Assist.

Check the MOST bus to see if the loop has broken.

In most cases the members try to help one another but you have to at least give enough information to do so. Year, model, miles, in warranty etc. From the limited amount of information your giving it sounds like IMO you have trouble with the TCU Unit. Read your manual and get the explanation of the " SOS Emergency System". Good luck
cheers

The TCU unit needs to be replaced. Find a replacement and have the car programmed. the part ranges from 245-345 plus install and reprogram. Make sure your replacement has bluetooth. it sucks but this device supports bmw assist, bluetooth, and your 6 disc changer/fiber optic cable or aux /ipod.

That SOS error message magically went away. Thanks for all the hints folks. I suppose it might be the TCU flaking in and out. Hopefully it doesn't pop up again.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.
