I'm new to ownership of a BMW. I purchased my first on Saturday a 2006 550i. I must say it's been a great couple of days and I don't know why I waited. The question is, I'm flooded with extended warranty info and people scaring me on the upkeep. The car has 44k miles, should I get the warranty? I've been offered 3 years 36k at 3,500 or 4 hrs 48k for 4,500. I also found out about a maintenance warranty for around 2k. This was a guess so I'm not sure how accurate. What should I do, maintenance seems like I would recoup the money easy. I checked the diagnostics and I need an oil change in 8k, breaks in in 22k and filters etc around 10k. Any help would be great, no laughing at me being a novice, hopefully I will be a quick learner. Thanks to all.

I have 3 years/36k miles "factory type" warranty with $0 and paid $1995 for it. My car is in the shop right now to have the blower motor looked at and tranny codes checked/reset. I'll know whether the warranty is worth it or not by tomorrow. I got the warranty because I read so much about tranny troubles and figured better safe than sorry. I'm through ASC.

Thanks for the info. Tell me how It goes, good luck. I ended up getting a 4 year extended service.

I would have advised you to by pass both warranties since your car only has 44k miles but you got it, I guess it's all good. I rather put that 4500 in an account for my next car and take my chance. If thing breaks down, it's usually near the 100k mark but by then your warranty would have expired.
