I just always though that AWD was better in handling in any weather condition (even on a dry road in summer tieme).
i have never driven RWD cars before. (owned a few FWD cars though)
I don't agree about that statement. Why are most race cars RWD? There's a huge difference between how a FWD and RWD cars feel/handle.

Go drive a well-engineered RWD car (like a BMW) and see what you think. To me, as I said above, the only reason for AWD is for better traction in bad conditions...

Agree totally. Additionally, AWD doesn't look as nice. After a real BMW is RWD.

location = South eastern europe.

winters = very little snow here (2-3 weeks per year)

daily driver = yes. it's a main car.

commute distance = small city.

No need for awd based on what you wrote; maybe a set of snows;..... Handling, price, fuel economy, tire wear are all gonna be better and perhaps the ride as well w/rwd.

I live in southern New Hampshire (USA) and have a RWD. More snow has fallen in the past few weeks than all of last year, and my 535i with Dunlop WinterSport M3's has behaved perfectly.

After enjoying the RWD since I picked it up 10/31, I will never own an AWD car again. Ever.

I totally agree ! AWD is great in snow and crappy wet/muddy/icey conditions but if you don't see these conditions on a regular basis I would go RWD..........IMHO

Take a look here for why RWD is usually the best choice...

All my friends too say that RWD are much more fun to drive.

I'm just scared of going sideways/drifting into high-speed turns and losing control

Subaru and Audi are the best when it comes to combining AWD technology with performance. BMW makes you choose since it's idea of AWD use is for heavy snow only.

Personally, for peace of mind I would prefer AWD since I live in Europe. Its my love for driving (and an Audi sales rep that pissed me off) that led me to my current choice.

If you want to really drive a car, then I think a RWD BMW is the best choice. If you absolutely love BMW and AWD , then get an xi model, but if you are looking for a better mix of performance w/AWD technology then your best bet is somewhere else

In northern & central europe you do get crappy weather. Snow is expected from Oct thru Apr...last fall Austria got snow in early Sep! The weather here often changes very quickly & the hills and mountains can be a bear to drive in. I give much props to the German "Big 3" for the cars they make. Drive over here and you can really appreciate it
