Default Help me 5 Series, your my only hope

Recently I have been having issues with my display not turning on when I start the car. I press down on the iDrive, press the eject CD button, as well as cycle through the various inputs on my steering wheel. The display will flicker with the BMW logo, then promptly turn right back off. I have my Bluetooth setup in the car, so when I play a voicemail on my phone it sometimes activates the screen and it comes on and boots up like normal. Recently not even that has been fixing the issue, after about 30-40 minutes the display boots up and plays music like normal.

Any ideas what could be the problem, I REALLY hope I don't have to get the interface replaced. I am slowly getting into the market for a new car and an expensive repair like that will certainly set me back in my new car purchase.

For openers what year e60 are you asking about? Have you done any mods that involved the iDrive / multimedia components? Any other electronic maladies / alerts popping up that would indicate a power supply problem - like a dying battery? Any possibility that water leaked into your trunk? Lots of modules there and water damage is a common issue with some e60s.

Bone stock, only mod I did was cosmetic new wheels and M5 bumper. Some of the wife's bath and body works body wash spilled in the trunk.

No just daily driver, next vehicle will certainly be a build car. It actually smells horrible, it was one of those terrible $15 gifts. She was going to give it to someone for a gift exchange at work.

no no, by early build I mean the production date of the car. I'm wondering if the Micro Power Module wasn't relocated from the bottom of the trunk floor and somehow was contaminated by whatever spilled in the trunk. If the MPM gets contaminated it can wreak havoc on the electrical system of the car. later build cars had the MPM relocated by BMW at time of manufacture. There is a TIS out for it as well, but there are plenty of cars out there that still have the MPM in the original mounting location.

google "BMW E60 Micro power module", there is plenty of information out there. hopefully that's your issue, as it is a fairly simple repair. good luck.

Thank you, I certainly will. The weird part is all other electronics work, blinkers, gas guage, MPG. Perhaps those aren't controlled by the MPM.
