I've had my 530d about 3 weeks now.

Out of nowhere today I started to think about my previous car (e46 coupe) and began to daydream about buying an m3.

I've just been scanning the net and a used '53 m3 is about the same price as my '04 530d

The 530d was MEANT to be a quick, comfortable mile eating machine.

At the moment though I (bizzarely) seem to have this hankering for something more extreme.

Can someone please persuade me that I have done the right thing and that an M3 would not be a good idea I drive about 30,000 miles per year

DING!

(I'd suggest you get a remap, for about ?600 you can add around 15-20% to the horsepower)

Agree. Wait until the shine has completely faded, and then get a remap. It will brighten your life immensely.

Everyone knows an M3 is fast (including the rozzers) and you know you would get fed up with the ride.
There is a perverse pleasure in driving a 150mph tractor, I had so much fun with just 200bhp that I am buying another.

3 series (M3) is too small.

The 3-serie smaller especially the coupe. The 5-serie is a lot more comfortable. It looks more modern. You get a lower fuel consumption with the 3.0 liter diesel. To sum up, you get a much better car! Enjoy your car!

PRO-M3: Awesome car. Racecar feel and slick acceleration. Prestige of driving an "M".

CON-M3: The M3 will soon look old and obsolete when the new body style comes out- even the new 3 series coupe will make the M3 look "old". Less fuel efficient. Less space. Less comfort. Fewer high-tech bells and whistles.

M3 - small, great pace, even better handling, poor comfort.

5er has more style, more grace, more room, more comfort, more luxury.

Which do YOU value more? Race pace or grown up poise?

It depends on how you like your speed:

Smooth and sedate? Stay with the E60

Visceral and exciting? Get the M3

A DMS remap will pay for itself in 30,000 miles. And the extra BHP is a nice bonus.
