Ok, the positive cable is very loose and I can see that the cable is no longer connected to the battery.
Is it suppose to be firm and connected to something or not?
Do I now have to replace the entire cable or just the terminal?
Thanks you guys have been helpful......

I have 2005 545i and last week I got rear ended (nothing major), but rear bumper needs to be changed. So I want to use that opportunity to install the Mtech front and rear bumpers. But my car won't start. I first thought it was the battery because I still have the original, so I bought a new battery, but all I hear is a slight click when I try to start it. What do ya'll think it is? HELP!!!

the BST activates with the deployment of the airbags. in order to replace it, you must buy the repair kit from BMW. basically you measure the length of the new BST and then cut the old cable the same length and remove some of the insulation, although I leave a little extra cable on the old one. the kit comes with a special terminal that fits over the old cable and then you tighten a nut down on that terminal that crimps the whole terminal to the old cable.

Does the engine turn over? As a police officer, I drive a Crown Victoria and it has a fuel cut off switch when the cars are rear ended. The cut off has to be reset before the car will start. I don't know if this is a possibility or not. May be a less expensive option to check before looking into the battery cut off. Just a thought.

This is what my Safety Battery Terminal looks like. From what i'm being told, the silver part should not be out of the black plastic. Thanks.

Here is the pic of a good one. You need part#6929324. First thing is to remove the cable from the negative battery post while working on it. Follow pauliehcfr's instructions for replacement.

OK, Car now starts!!!
The Problem was the Safety Battery Terminal, just to be sure, I removed the black plastic cover and connected the loose cable back into the terminal and my car starts right away. So I can now go to the dealer to purchase the repair cable to properly fix it and retain a good Safety Battery Terminal. I just wonder if there will be any programming needed afterwards. Thanks for all the help.
