It's most likely one of the sensors that has gone bad. You can check the error messages through iDrive. Read this post:

Same thing over in bimmerfest.com: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=148103
Im having all kinds of idrive problems , im very worried, my service consultant stated that the "system could not be read" error message on the idrive had nothing to do with the DTC Brake error im getting and said that i should get it in to get it fixed. The DTC and Brake error has been lit for 2 days now and the steering has been getting stiff. I hope not having the part here in the U.S. and having the parts backordered will not cause damage to any other part of the vehicle.

How about this:
I went to the dealer because of the Yellow DSC/brake yellow light & the red steering malfunctioning icon. Got the car fixed on Tuesday and Saturday the red steering malfunctioning icon came back again.
What a reliable car i have.

Wow, that's crazy. Have you brought it back yet? This is my first BMW, so I'm a little perplexed to have problems with only a few miles on the vehicle. Anyone know what the causes and fix for this problem is?
