hormazd,

isn't rds for radio data? I don't have that at all, but I do have the CD title text on certain discs while not on others. I did pick up my car in Munich in mid-June and my car has not ahd any software updates (that I know of???).

Yes it is. But for some reason I lost the CD text functionality when I lost RDS. I cannot be sure whether it was a software upgrade or some special US based coding they did at VPC. All I know is that I had it in Europe in July.

I drove a 520 loaner and it had bus nav and no L7.
A CD I use on my car, what shows text on idrive, was not showing text on the loaner.
I guess cars without nav, or with bus nav, can't display text!

OK, my car has NAV (US built) production 7 May, and shows text on one of my kids' CD. The CD is called 'NOW 11'. It's one of those CD's that has a group of songs that are compiled from latest hits.

I don't get any RDS, and I never had an upgrade. I could post a pic if anyone pushes me to do it.....

But this is the only disc so far that shows titles. Other factory ones don't...

My 1 month old, 2005 model 520 UK build, has CD text only in the single-slot. Nothing in the multi-deck. Used Michael jackson special edition thriller cd to test.

Not such a big deal to me though, you just get song title in bottom left, the funny rotary/wheel track number things still shows.

I have no idea what s/w I have. If I turn off car when and mute is on, it is forgotten when engine re-started and stereo is audible again.

I'm still annoyed i have a voice control button on steering wheel that does nothing - not even a beep!

cheers.
