Hi everyone!

I'm new to the 5 series group and loving the car!

I'm really hoping you guys can help me with some of the issues I'm having with my 530d sport.

I just purchased a '06 530d M Sport Automatic, I'm really loving the car it's one of the most smoothest rides I've ever had!

I've just taken it into BMW for brake fluid service and they flagged a few things which I need to get looked at... the only problem is it costs a bloody arm and leg to get it done in a BMW garage... thieves.

Any ideas on cheaper options on these following issues will help my bank balance out loads:

1. Front two 19" alloys are slightly buckled about 3-4mm indent from the previous owners pothole fetish - can buckled alloys be repaired, instead of paying a £800 for new ones?
2. Gearbox oil leak, needs two new seals to stop leaking and oil top up - they are charging £600 to replace these, as they said its very labour intensive - anyone had this done?
3. Under tray is damaged recommend to change it - are these expensive?

I also had a few other additional things I've thought about doing to the car subject to my missus approval..!

1. There's quite a deep key scratch on rear right hand side. Does anybody know a good paintwork who does good work for good a price in or near London?
2. Whilst I'm loving the 231bhp, mates have told me that the turbo diesels really jump up with a ecu remap - i've looked at superchips and evolve but there is nothing there for under 400squid, does anyone know where I can a cheaper alternative or secondhand box from?

Sorry its a bloody long list! Thanks for having a look through any tips or advice would be massively helpful!!

Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum and enjoy the ride!

First (off topic), if you are so worried about these sums, it means you are not in the position to maintain this car properly, ergo its not for you. Everyone hates spending excessive money at dealerships and thats ok, but when I hear someone looking for a remap under GBP 400 for this type of car with a leaking auto box, Im just Is blowing up your engine cheaper than getting the car maintained and a proper remap? I mean, going that cheap and chipping a car thats not maintained is just begging for really expensive mechanical trouble. And you havent even mentioned swirl flaps... do a search on these, it will be worth it.

Then, to the point:
visit this link: http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/garages_seng.html
and find a good affordable independent shop around where you live.
I'm sure it will be a much better alternative of the dealer, and I hope it will help you maintain the car with the minimum cost needed.

There are plenty of topics here on UK remaps, including reviews of cheaper tuning boxes - just do a search.

The trays under the car are not expensive but I would not trust what the dealer told you anyways - let a good indy shop look at the car and suggest what has to be done.

Sounds to me like that car has a hard life, did you buy it from a BMW dealer? they should have offered to repair that scratch and replace the wheels. Personally I think I would have walked away and looked for some thing else.
