Heel-and-toe
#14
With feet the size of mine I can almost double-de-clutch with one foot... Ha!
Mind you the position of the accelerator is much better than in my previous Volvo S80 which was so
close to the side-wall that I scuffed to flat every pair of suede shoes I own on the right hand side.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
I am not so concerned about heel and toeing as I am about the W_I_D_T_H of the footwell. The new body wheel well design (over the E39) has encroached considerably on the clutch. I am forced to clutch with the toe of my shoe, rather than the ball of my foot, otherwise, I come down on the dead pedal/rest and don't disengage the clutch. This is not only annoying, but dangerous.
And no, at US size 11.5 D, I don't have overly large feet. This is a significant unfortunate change from previous designs of the "Ultimate Driving Machine." Seems more like an auto transmission design. Could be a "pedal misapplication" lawsuit waiting to happen.
Cheers,
Ray Hull

My Ride: 2003 X5 3.0----->gone
2004 Porsche Cayenne S : Gemballa front and back bodykit, fabspeed bypass pipes, Gemballa exhaust pipes, full option, 20" factory sport design rims------>gone
2005 545i 6-spd manual---->de-badged, CDV removal, Autosolutions short shift kit, resonator removal, premium package, PDC, xenon, almost full options, hardwire V1 install ....looking for mods...
2007 550i 6-spd----> Premium package, sport package, Logic7, heated everything, Rogue Engineering SSK, CDV removal, hardwire V1 install, aFe cold air intake, Custom Magnaflow exhaust....
In my opinion, the pedal placements are perfect. I don't know bout you guys but instead of using my heel and toes I actually use the right side of my foot to brake and the left edge to gas. Maybe I have a size 12 feet thats why...
Downsides to the 5 series 6-spd:
1) Clutch pedal too light for my preference - cant shift too hard...
2) Shifter too rubbery - changed to SSk - problem solved
3) throttle pedal is laggy, meaning that after I press on the throttle it takes a while before the engine actually responds. Could be the drive-by-wire system...u guys have this problem??
The third reason is the only reason people might complain regarding hel-toe and double clutching since it makes the process harder. I have no complaints since I am used to it already and also understasnding the fact that the 5 series is NOT a sports car after all.
