heated seats problem / overheating / burned seats

My Ride: bmw 528 2008
I had this problem -- it eventually began to burn a hole thru my seat (smoke and everything)
Surprisingly since i was out of warranty the initial response was "sorry it is wear and tear, the cost is on you"
I fought this on multiple levels and eventually and reluctantly BMW paid for it.
I dont know what car you have or what year it is but good luck.
