Hi,

Please let me know who of you have met this problem in his car. Regardless of the heating stage included the driver's seat after 2-3 minutes I have to turn off the heating, because it burns my armchair in the left buttock. Even iDrivie settings not changed the situation.

I know that there was a service action for that issue, but after checking the VIN, unfortunately my car is not qualified for this action. BTW anyone maybe know the VIN range?

Unfortunately, a few days ago I had a very unpleasant situation when let drive my car to my girlfriend, and I forgot about this problem (I just did not use the heating for a long time) and did not mention her. She suddenly felt heat on seat, and to avoid burns she rose slightly in her seat and unfortunately push acceleration pedal... than we moved the left lane ... Fortunately nothing went by from the opposite direction.

this time it had a tremendous impact on my safety. I contact BMW local headquaters, but they rejected my case as few times before. In my opinion, the car was not damaged before in any way, well frequently mentioned, the fault was recognised by BMW as a problem, so that BMW should be addressed.

but before I run some procedures, I would like to know what is the scale of this phenomenon ...

thank you in advance for any information.

I had this problem -- it eventually began to burn a hole thru my seat (smoke and everything)

Surprisingly since i was out of warranty the initial response was "sorry it is wear and tear, the cost is on you"

I fought this on multiple levels and eventually and reluctantly BMW paid for it.

I dont know what car you have or what year it is but good luck.

it's also 2004.

if I found more such people, my intention is to make BMW to expand the action for other cars. Even if somone had such problem and it's solved, the information is helpfull to estimate the range of the issue.

I don't have this issue, but my heaters do get kind of on the hot side at times. Mine are always controllable and I have them set to heat the seat back, not the bottom cushion anyway, so there's minimal heat on the bottom.

The action you're talking about seems far fetched to me. But. As long as enough people fight for this against BMW - each individually, BMW will surely expand it into a proper recall. Otherwise, I'm afraid you may be wasting energy trying fighting like this - just go at them on your own behalf and see what they do for you. You've got some fighting ahead of you - that's for sure! Do a search on this problem here and on other forums though - I've seen many threads about this before

Either way, I hope you get your car fixed and I really think BMW is in the wrong here and you have all the rights to ask for a rectification... rectification hehe hehe hehe aaaanyway, I hope that BMW fixes your car and all is well again. I'd instruct the girlfriend to not jump onto the opposite lane NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS though

GL

I had this problem with my 2003 325i. In my case, it was a simple case of refitting the heater pad which had been installed incorrectly and was doubled over on one corner.

onece it was like that:
The heated seat bottom on my E60 525i burned through while I was sitting in traffic. I have a burn mark on suit pants. My car was out of warranty by 15,000 miles and BMW replaced the seat heater, seat padding and upholstery and sent me a check (on the request of my SA) for $1000 for a new suit.

all cases were managed individally, separate on request of car user, there was no revision of range the recall

It happened to me..

2004 545i... burned a hole in my seat and BMW replaced the faulty coil and the seat cover.. had to fight for them to cover the seat bottom (so they would match).. but it wasn't too much of a hassle.

There had been a recall on the '04 e60.. I think I posted on it here if you search my posts it should be in there

yes there was such recall but my car is not covered by it.
I suppose that not all cars with such fault were recall and now BMW wants to aviod any additional costs.
I'm still looking for VIN range of this recall

Witam!

My ex boss was co owner of a BMW Retailer and he said that this was a known problem. He had two cases he remembered the most. One car that completely burned down after the owner went out a morning and started it and also started the seatheater and went back inside for a cup of coffe, after 30 mins he saw the car burning.

And another customer had thin pants on him and it burned a hole right through his pants and left a small mark on his ass.

So be aware! Ostroznie =).
