Hi I have a 2006 Sept 530 D. It recently went in for a CIP upgrade. I may be imagining things but I now find that I can only use the headlight washers once. It will give the headlights two washes and then in order to get them to wash again I Have to turn the ignition off headlights off and start again. One tech at my local BMW dealers says that this is how they work. Another says that sounds mad and he will look into it for me. The handbook says that with the lights on the wshers will work at practical intervals, with the headlights on?, not really sure what that means. I have xeon lights and active headlights. Anyone able to answer this for me.

Just found this elsewhere on the forum. This site is an amazing wealth of info that even the dealers cannot help you with.

For those who are curious...

The rule for when the headlight washers come on is as follows...

They are switched on during the first wash after starting the car AND lights are switched on (either auto or manual, including parking lights)

It is then off for the next 7 minutes (assuming the lights are still on) UNLESS you operate the windscreen washer 5 times within those 7 minutes

And when they come on its an amazing blast of window washer fluid. The will also come on right after you have waxed your car.

It's also a nice, nonconfrontational method to get a tailgater to back off, especially if their car looks nice and clean.

If your headlights are on:

The headlight washers will give two spills every third time you wash the window.

The calculator will tilt, every time you shut the engine down.

+100!! I use it for this purpose all the time ... I live in a part of the world where manhood seems to be measured by how close you can get to the car in front of you at 80mph. My previous car actually had one washer nozzle purposely aimed to go clean over the roof for better effect.

OK, now I have summoned the courage to admit that I don't know where the headlight washer control is located. I believe that I have the washers (small covers set into the front bumper beneath each headlight), but the manner of initiating their use is a mystery.

Help please?

Thanks ricracing,

Those of us in southern CA don't get to use our wipers much less windshield washers!!

So, if I understand the headlight washers will be automatically activated after the windshield washer is cycled 3 times?

Brilliant!!

And those of us who live in Scandinavia wouldn't see anything in the winter without them. It's absolutely life threatening to go out of washer fluid with the temperature just above freezing and snow and salt sludge on the ground.
