Headlight might need restoring.
Hi everyone. The top part of my headlight (by the eyebrow) is starting to become opaque and the texture is kind of rough now. Has anyone restored their headlights? What did you use? And does it last or does it go back to how it was? Thanks.
Any headlight restoration kit from Pep Boys or any auto parts store works great. I hear that the Sylvania one is top notch, but I've used the $7 one (Blue Magic) and even that worked. The kits come with a "headlight sealer" to stop it from happening again. I did my lights about 4 months ago and they've been crystal clear ever since.

I have an '06 525xi that had the same problem. The top of the headlights turned opaque and a surface layer was peeling off creating a rough surface. I used the Meguiars Heavy Duty headlight restoration kit and the results were fantastic. The kit cost about $25 at Advance Auto and includes the UV protectant, which slows the oxidation rate of the plastic going forward. The process took me about 1 hr per headlight, but I really took my time with each grinding/polishing step to get the best results.
Don't bother removing the headlights, I used the 3M blue painters tape to mask off each headlight in about 5 min and there were no issues.

Thanks guys ^^^
I will try to find out the name of the one in the chrome bag and post it. I know by far out of the ones I've seen that one is the best and comes complete. It's about $
18 I believe.

A tip I noticed stated in the owner's manual: DO NOT wipe dry the headlamp assembly after washing. Allow to air dry on its own.
Continual dry wiping probably wears down the UV protective coating. So now I let it air dry. Water seems to bead off and doesn't leave any spots.
I use to sand/buff my lights back in the day and the results were fantastic but without any UV protectant to reapply, the oxidation always returned within a year.
